Blue Point Juniper Topiary
Dense, steel-blue foliage in a naturally tidy pyramid — the kind of formal, year-round structure that holds its shape with almost no work.
The Blue Point Juniper (Juniperus chinensis 'Blue Point') is a slow-to-moderate, broadly pyramidal evergreen prized for its rich blue-green needled foliage and naturally symmetrical, cone-shaped habit. It grows densely from the ground up, reaching about 12-15 ft. tall and 8-10 ft. wide at maturity, and keeps its color through every season. Use it as a living accent flanking an entry, an evergreen anchor in a mixed border, a low-fuss privacy point, or as a clipped topiary in a large container.
Why growers choose the Blue Point Juniper
- Year-round blue. The steel-blue to blue-green foliage holds its color through summer heat and winter cold, so the plant never goes dull or drops bare.
- Naturally formal shape. It grows into a dense, broadly pyramidal cone on its own, giving you crisp structure without constant pruning.
- Tough and adaptable. Hardy in zones 4-9, it shrugs off heat, drought once established, and a wide range of soils as long as drainage is good.
- Deer tend to pass it by. Like most junipers, its aromatic, prickly foliage is far less appealing to browsing deer than arborvitae.
- Low maintenance. Once rooted in, it asks for little beyond full sun and the occasional light shaping.
Plant a pair to frame a doorway or walkway, line several in a row for a structured screen, or set one in a wide container as a clipped topiary specimen — the dense blue foliage reads sharp and intentional in any of these roles.
